Location
Heritage Christian School has been providing education since 1965. HCS is located on a 38.5 acre tract of land just inside I-465 in the northeast corner of Indianapolis where I-69 ends. Students come from Marion and surrounding counties especially Carmel, Fishers, Noblesville, Lawrence and as far reaching as Fortville, New Palestine, Avon and Zionsville, Indiana.
Development History
1965 - Heritage Christian School was founded. Frank Best, father of Walter and Don Best, donated the land located at 75th and Binford Boulevard, with the vision of a private non-denominational school where there would be an uncompromised commitment to Jesus Christ and the Word of God in all facets of a student’s education.
1965 – K-12 classes start in church basement with eleven students. Lilly Endowment donated funds for eight buses to bring the bus fleet to twenty-two buses.
1966 – Lilly endowed $100K for matching funds raised to build the first building which opened Christmas of 1966. The building housed 19 classrooms, offices, and a gym/lunch room.
1967 – Enrollment increases and an addition is built of ten more classrooms and portables are purchased for grades 7-12.
1968 – Science labs are added.
1971 – Construction of an Elementary Gym/multi-purpose room.
1972 – Elementary gym becomes an additional space for high school using partitions. This building is currently the high school library and ESS offices.
1973 – Five additional acres are donated by the Best Foundation and a separate high school building is built provided eleven classrooms. Eli Lilly Endowment donated $17k for the project.
1975 – A wing of the elementary building was dedicated to junior high students.
1984 – High School Gymnasium is built.
1988 – Educational Support Services is added to curriculum for exceptional students and learning differences.
1991- High school building is constructed containing fifteen classrooms, three science labs, administrative office space. Former high school becomes junior high. 1994 – Building addition of the junior high.
1996 – Administration building is built.
1998-99 – Building project of library upgrade.
2000 – “Match and Beyond” $3 million dollar building campaign for Fine Arts Building constructed. Two story classroom building with lobby and cafetorium. Upper level contains eight classrooms and science laboratory.
2001 – HCS becomes members of Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA).
2005-06 – “Catch the Vision” $13 million dollar building campaign. Construction included New Elementary classrooms, ESS classrooms, gymnasium and playground renovation. Twelve classrooms for new Intermediate School building (5th & 6th). High school gym renovation and lobby expansion, administrative offices and locker rooms. New Westside entrance and parking area for elementary.
2007 – “Destination Excellence” building campaign. $3.1 million dollar high school addition of a two story building including twelve classrooms, two science labs, Commons, and administrative offices.
