Alicia Michaelsen

Elementary PE Teacher

As you walk into the elementary gym, seeing the plethora of students running around or playing games, you may spot Miss Alicia Michaelsen, the elementary PE teacher. Her positive energy and love for the students is evident in the way she interacts with them.

Before coming to Heritage, she attended Maranatha College in Wisconsin, majoring in Physical Education for grades K-12. After she graduated, she intended to teach PE in a public school setting. However, this plan quickly change after meeting Mary Lou Cooper and Brenda Klingerman, the principals of the elementary school. "God changed my heart!" Michaelsen said, "He showed me a ministry opportunity I had not, in my own planning, thought about."

After coming to Heritage in 2005, she has continued to teach physical education to the elementary school students. She stated that "interacting with my students is my favorite part about teaching. I get to use physical activity as a conduit to teach so much more than just playing fun games and learning how to have a healthy lifestyle." As she educates her students, she shares biblical values and principles, ministering to them as a follower of Christ.

"I get to use physical activity as a conduit to teach so much more than just playing fun games and learning how to have a healthy lifestyle."

According to Michaelsen, Heritage has been a special opportunity; being able to work with other extraordinary people and students while doing what she loves.

"My favorite part about Heritage is my co-workers and bosses," she adds, "Not only do I work with amazing teachers and staff, but I get to work for wonderful and supportive Principals."
