The Helping Others Pursue Excellence (HOPE) Fund has a unique purpose. Established in 2010, the HOPE Fund was inspired by Heritage’s first elementary principal, Mary Jane English (1931-2009). Mrs. English was a pioneer for academic enrichment. She had a burden for children with the intellectual capacity to advance despite being identified with a learning weakness that caused them to struggle in the classroom. Now, Heritage has a variety of academic enrichment programs, including one of the most robust Educational Support Services Departments among Christian schools. Through this scholarship, we honor and remember those who, like Mary Jane English, have instilled hope in the HCS community.
Ryan Zochowski (class of 2012), a beloved student who went to be with the Lord in 2009, had parents who provided him with a private tutor. They understood the difference a good tutor could make in a child’s life and helped initiate this HOPE fund to provide hope to others. Many times the obstacle of an expense prevents a family from enrolling a student in a needed program. We hope to remove that financial barrier so more students can achieve their God-given academic potential.

Dr. Larry G. Hitchcock believed firmly in Christian education and loved Heritage Christian School. He saw needs at the school and took it upon himself to raise money for those needs. His projects included paving the track, building the tennis courts, adding the bleachers, placing the school name on the outside of the high school gym, and providing the eagle sign inside the gym. He frequently offered to help others with tuition because he felt Heritage had so much to offer.
The Larry G. Hitchcock, M.D. Memorial Fund was established by the Hitchcock family to provide financial assistance for Heritage Christian School seniors while honoring his legacy. It is our hope that this fund will continue to grow and that others who share Larry’s heart for Christian education will want to contribute.
