Kindergarten Aide & Theater Department Co-Director
Ayana Stewart (HCS alum ‘12) is a kindergarten aide and co-director for the theater department.
Ayana is pictured here with her mother and sisters, who also attended HCS!
Ayana didn’t expect to end up in education, but she’s loving every minute of it. She received a Bachelor’s in Nursing from Oakwood University, then nannied for a family while preparing for her nursing boards. It was nannying that made Ayana discover an interest in working with young children.
Ayana ended up back at Heritage to help the theater department as a stage manager and now co-director (she recently co-directed the fall production of Fiddler on the Roof). When she heard about openings in the elementary, she applied to become an aide.
“My favorite part is seeing the energy that radiates from them when they are learning something new,” she said. “It reminds me every day that learning doesn't end, and even as adults we can still share that same enthusiasm for learning.”
Ayana is still interested in nursing and has dreams of providing expressive arts therapy to youth. In the meantime, she is enjoying working with little ones and helping them learn in creative ways.
“I consider it an immense blessing to be back at Heritage, serving the community that spent so much time and effort pouring into my life,” she said.
In her spare time, Ayana loves doing anything creative: art, theater, music, cooking, the list goes on! She’s also helping raise her family’s new Bernedoodle, Flynn Rider.
