Bryan Baker

Intermediate & Middle School Teacher and Baseball Coach

Bryan Baker teaches 7th grade Bible and middle school health, and he coaches middle school baseball.

Bryan grew up near Youngstown, OH but attended Anderson University to play baseball and study business. He later obtained a master’s degree in Kinesiology from IU. Bryan has worked in a variety of careers and industries, including construction, athletic directing, college admissions, and sales/marketing.

After completing his master’s, Bryan went to Haiti for a mission trip, where he heard about a PE teacher opening at a K-12 school in the Dominican Republic. Bryan decided to pursue that position, so he moved to Guatemala to learn Spanish, then to the DR to teach for three years. It was there that he really learned Spanish, met his wife, and fell in love with teaching.

“Teaching overseas was one of the most challenging things I've ever done in my life but I found that I could have a profound impact on young people and I could teach about Jesus,” he said.

Bryan had known about Heritage since college and had applied to various positions over the years. One day, Jerry Stayton called him and said, "I need a PE and health teacher and your resume is saved on my home screen and I have no idea how it got there but can you do an interview?"

Bryan has been teaching at Heritage ever since. He loves being able to have discipleship and meaningful conversations with his students.

“Christian education doesn't stop where public education must. We get to explore the hard questions and then bring in a Christ-loving worldview to help students know what an amazing, wonderful, and loving God we serve,” said Bryan.

Bryan and his wife have a son in prep-k at Heritage and a daughter who will start preschool next year.
