Middle School Assistant Principal and Director of Fine Arts
David Barber has been at HCS since 2010 and he’s grateful to work alongside other Christ followers every day.
Mr. Barber studied Music Education with a focus on Instrumental and Choral Music at Indiana State University. He launched his career as a band director at Attica Consolidated Schools. It was there that Barber’s principal suggested he pursue educational administration, so he eventually decided to get a master’s degree in Secondary Administration and Supervision at Purdue University.
Barber began his administrative career as Assistant Principal in Veedersburg, IN, where he worked until he got hired at Heritage. Here, he’s been able to blend his two career interests, serving in administration and in fine arts. This year marks his 26th year in education.
“I am amazed at how God directs our path, but more specifically how he directed me to this amazing campus.” he said.
Barber has been married to his wife, Paula, for 12 years and they call themselves a “blended family.” Barber has twin daughters, who just graduated college, and Paula has one daughter who works as a school counselor and lives in Terre Haute.
Now empty nesters, the Barbers enjoy traveling, working around the yard, and running. Thus far, Barber ran nearly 1,900 miles in 2018 and his wife surpassed 1,000 miles!
Mr. Barber feels blessed to be a part of the HCS community. “The fact that I can come to work with colleagues who believe in the same God I do and have a heart’s desire to serve Him daily, makes life that much easier to live and manage,” he said.
