High School English Teacher
Kate Boxell’s journey of becoming a high school English teacher at HCS was a whirlwind. Though she had a stable job in marketing, Kate longed to work in education. On a whim, she took a job as an aide last semester. Within a few weeks, she was asked to instead teach 10th grade English to cover a maternity leave. This year, Kate is taking on a full schedule of classes, teaching 11th grade and Honors American Literature, 9th-grade Intensive English, and Yearbook.
“It’s amazing to see how the Lord orchestrated each step and each transition to lead me to my current position,” she said. “He knew exactly how much I could handle and used these stepping stones to give me absolute confidence in His plan for me.”
Kate studied English Education at Taylor University. She enjoys literature, writing, and working with youth. Kate is eager to build relationships with her students and watching them grow throughout the year, especially as they connect with literature.
“Not everyone loves reading, but it’s exciting to see students work to understand what they are reading and then connect that to their lives not only academically but also spiritually,” she said.
