High School Art Teacher
High school art teacher Melissa Lawler is a jack-of-all-trades when it comes to her art. When she’s not at school teaching, she may be knitting, spinning, and dying a sweater, taking photos, or selling her ceramics artwork.
Melissa studied pre-med at the The University of Alabama but switched her major after taking up photography. She was inspired to teach others about how to express themselves through art after teaching a photojournalism class at an adult high school.
Melissa started teaching art at Heritage in January 2014. She had previously been the Teen Assistant Librarian at the Fishers Library for 14 years and had taught art to several homeschool groups.
This year, she is teaching high school photography, ceramics, intro to 3D, and yearbook. Melissa loves the energy her students bring to class every day. She’s excited to lead an art trip to Italy and Greece this June, and another to France and Spain in 2020.
Melissa has three children, the youngest of whom is a junior at Heritage, and she just became a grandmother in 2018.
