Educational Support Services Star Reading Teacher
Rachel (Roman) Thomas is an ‘07 HCS graduate who is now teaching Star Reading for Educational Support Services in grades 1-5!
Growing up, Rachel had teachers predicting she would become a teacher. She always knew she wanted a job helping people, but it wasn’t until high school that she decided to pursue teaching. After taking an Introduction to Special Education course in college, Rachel knew she had found her place.
“I wanted to help all children reach their full potential at school,” she said.
Rachel graduated from Indiana University with a degree in Elementary Education and Special Education K-6. After college, she taught as a special education teacher for four years, then became a reading interventionist for three years.
Having attended Heritage from K-12, Rachel was excited when a position for an Educational Support Services (ESS) teacher came up. She loves getting to work with different grade levels and helping children improve their reading skills.
“It is wonderful seeing all those reading components start to click and then watching them gain confidence in their own reading ability,” she said.
Rachel and her husband, Matt, have a 2-year-old son, Barrett; together they love traveling and serving at their church.
