Elementary Explorers & Discovery Teacher (Educational Support Services)
Elementary Explorers & Discovery teacher Christy Deaton grew up among teachers, with a grandmother and two parents who dedicated their lives to teaching. When the time came for college at Indiana University, she knew she wanted to study Elementary Education.
In her teaching career, Deaton has taught multiple elementary grade levels and gifted classes. She has also run a long career coaching girls basketball, including at HCS for nine years.
Deaton stopped teaching for 10 years to raise a family, but when she and her husband sent their eldest daughter to Heritage for kindergarten, Deaton prayed she’d be able to teach at Heritage one day. She eventually joined the faculty as the elementary computer teacher in 2012. The next year, she became the elementary Explorers & Discovery teacher with ESS (Educational Support Services) and has been in that role ever since.
Explorers runs from 1st through 6th grade, so she loves working with the same group of students for multiple years.
“It’s been fun and rewarding to see them grow spiritually, academically, and socially,” she said.
The Deatons have three children, Emery (11th grade), Bella (9th), and Spencer (7th). They love watching UK basketball and football together, visiting Disney World, and vacationing in Myrtle Beach with extended family.
