November 5, 2024 Update:
We’re thrilled to share that Heritage Christian School alum Allison Martin (Class of 2000) was recently featured in the Current magazine for her incredible work on her podcast, IN the Parks!
Allison, who now teaches 8th grade English at Clay Middle School in Carmel, found a unique way to combine her love for storytelling with her passion for Indiana’s natural beauty. She interviews DNR naturalists, volunteers, and even park directors, uncovering the history, hidden stories, and breathtaking sites in Indiana's state parks.
“Sometimes, I’ll go to a park and get to interview the staff there,” Allison shared. “I really love doing that because they can take you to significant places and tell you the stories behind things you might not get if you’re just visiting on your own.”
From WWII history at Fort Harrison to the iconic red covered bridge at Versailles State Park, Allison’s episodes are a tribute to the natural treasures in our backyard. She even has a personal family connection to McCormick’s Creek State Park, where her grandparents once took a photo together in 1952. This past year, Allison recreated the moment with a new photo in the exact same spot, adding a touching tribute to her family legacy.
If you love nature, history, or just want a fresh adventure, be sure to listen to IN the Parks on your favorite podcast platform!
