Alumni Update

John Miley ('09)

John Miley • Class of 2009

February 17, 2025 Update

Since graduating from HCS in 2009, John Miley has built a career that blends his passion for analytics and healthcare. After earning his undergraduate degree in Informatics from Indiana University and an MBA from Butler University, he started his career with Cru in Orlando before working at Target’s headquarters in Minneapolis. About 10 years ago, he returned to Indianapolis, where he has held analytics and operations roles at Roche Diagnostics and Lilly. Today, he leads a team at Lilly that partners with companies managing prescription drug benefits, working to ensure patients can access the medications they need.

John credits Heritage Christian School with laying a strong foundation for both his professional and personal life. Teachers like Mrs. Lawton, Mr. Watt, Mr. Stroup, Coach Ambrose, and Mr. Booker left a lasting impact—whether through faith-filled lessons, encouragement in the classroom, or mentorship on the baseball field. Their influence helped shape his work ethic, leadership, and spiritual growth.

  • Mrs. Lawton – “I still remember memorizing and singing Bible verses in her class, some of which have stuck with me to this day.”
  • Mr. Watt – “He told us to email him after going to church for the first time in college. It was a small thing, but I’m grateful for the expectation he set early on, knowing how easy it is for faith to take a backseat if we aren’t intentional.”
  • Mr. Stroup – “His legendary birthday letters still show up in my mailbox every year—he is such a great example of faithfulness and intentionality.”
  • Coach Ambrose – “He was not only one of my favorite teachers, but also someone who had an even bigger impact on me outside the classroom, especially on the baseball field. He always led by example, and he’s a big reason why I want to coach my own kids in sports as they grow up!”
  • Mr. Booker – “His class was especially impactful, exposing me to different worldviews and religions while challenging me to think critically about why I believe what I do.”

Looking back, John recognizes how HCS strengthened his faith and challenged him to make it his own. "I don’t think I fully realized or appreciated it at the time, but HCS did a great job of building a strong foundation for my faith and deepening my understanding of the Bible," he said. Now, as a husband, father of three (two of whom are current HCS students!), and active church member, he’s grateful for the firm foundation he received.

John’s advice for current students? "Glorify God, work hard, and don’t stress over the small stuff. Academics are important, but there's so much more to life outside of school. At the end of the day, true success comes from following Christ and serving others with humility."

We’re proud to celebrate alumni like John who are making an impact in their careers, communities, and families!
