CEO Update: Flying Higher

May 15, 2020

Jeff FreemanFinishing a Unique Year of Inspiring Education

Our school year has finished! Congratulations to all our students, families and teachers for completing this unique year. We pray that all our families will have a healthy and blessed summer break.

Finishing the Race

Finishing the race is a metaphor that the Apostle Paul uses.

II Timothy 4:7 says, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." He's referring to the most important race of life, which is to be a follower of Christ, but we are also finishing the race of this extraordinary 2019-20 school year.

Some of our students have raced to the end of a year of preschool or kindergarten, building strong spiritual, emotional and intellectual foundations. Some of our students have finished a race that has them on the doorstep of High School, where our desire is for them to soon be experiencing demanding academics, flourishing fine arts opportunities, challenging athletics and fulfilling clubs and community – together - on campus.

Others have finished the race of their full Heritage experience, standing on the threshold of college and career. On July 17, at our postponed Class of 2020 graduation, we will celebrate what could easily be termed our most important achievement and the most important application of our mission.

Thank you for allowing us to partner with you in fulfilling God’s plan and purpose for your children. I pray that our faculty and staff are an encouragement to your students to live for Jesus, and seek Him in all that they do, so that whatever their "race" is at this time in their lives, they run with endurance, with their eyes fixed on Jesus (Hebrews 12:1-2).

The Path Forward

Our school’s dream statement sets a high standard for our school.

Heritage Christian School will be a light that shines in the darkness, a premier institution increasingly recognized as a model and benchmark of relevant 21st century Christian education, transforming lives and reaching the world for Christ.

We know that God established Heritage as a light in our community. Even in the midst of a global pandemic, from our youngest learners to our college-bound seniors, we believe in raising up and equipping a generation of exceptional Christian leaders and world-changers. Regardless of the circumstances that surround us, we are committed to influencing this generation for the Glory of God.

While so much is unknown about our future, we will be ready. Our school task force is working on innovative and effective ways to deliver our distinctive Christian education. As we wait for additional yet-to-be-announced government directives, we are already preparing for enhanced levels of campus health safety protocols. We will continue to fully leverage all that Veracross, Canvas and other vital technology tools have to offer. It was truly a blessing that we were able to upgrade our systems at the start of the year. Regardless of what unfolds on the path forward, we will not stand still.

Listening to Our Community

Honest and constructive feedback is important as we fervently pursue our dream statement. We need to listen to our community. The school remains committed to a number of ways to get feedback and input. We have had separate parent, faculty and diversity advisory groups that provide valuable input. Thank you to all who have served in these groups and help us to move in the right directions.

We also value the feedback we receive from our annual surveys to our community and take seriously the comments we receive. This year’s survey was delivered this week. If you haven’t responded yet, it only takes a few minutes to complete and the feedback we receive from you is much appreciated.

Heritage Headlines

This year had a lot of great news. While the 4th quarter of our school year was drastically affected by the pandemic, earlier this year our students were recognized for numerous individual awards and achievements. This year, we have had record-setting athletic performances in volleyball, basketball, track and field, swimming and more, and many Fine Arts achievements. In multiple areas, we have made our mark at regional, state and world championship levels. From music to mock trial, robotics to racing, and dozens of other achievements, we are truly blessed with a remarkable community.

Eagles Fly Higher

“But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.” (Isaiah 40:31)

This powerful verse is especially relevant at a time like this. When God compares us to eagles, I believe He is telling us something very important.

Eagles have the ability to focus on objects miles away. We must have a clear vision and remain focused no matter what the obstacles may be. Eagles are found living on higher ground. Let us always remember that as Christians we are already living on higher ground because of who we are in Christ. When storm clouds gather, an eagle uses the wind to lift himself higher, far above the storm. They can fly to heights that no other bird can. While other birds hide in the trees, eagles rise above the storm.

Be encouraged. Be strong. Remain faithful. Rise above the storm. At Heritage Christian, we are proud to be eagles!

Thank You!

Thank you for being part of this vibrant community. I pray that you will be able to enjoy a wonderful summer and I look forward to being together again soon.

For the Cause of Christ,
