Heritage family, as we begin a new school year, we are excited to return to the transformational work God has called us to in the discipleship of students and the pursuit of excellence in education.
From the Head of School
Dr. Brian Dougherty, Ed.D, came back to Heritage in 2023 as our Head of School, bringing over 30 years of experience in Christian education. Before this, he spent a decade here as a teacher and Middle School Principal before leading other Christian schools in Indiana and Georgia. Dr. Dougherty holds degrees from Purdue and Ball State, including a Doctorate in Educational Leadership. He and his wife Rachel have two children, Colin and Caroline, who are both Christian school grads. He's deeply committed to guiding the next generation with a Biblical approach to education.
Heritage Christian School is a special place. We each have a different story, but your story and the story of God at work at Heritage are now woven together. We are united in Christ...and that makes us family. I am blessed to be sharing the Heritage journey with you.
Head of School Updates
As we brought the 24-25 school year to a close, our hearts were full of gratitude and awe for what God has done in and through our school community. This last year has not merely been one of progress, it has been one of transformation.
For the past year, the Leadership Team has embarked on a journey to seek God’s direction for Heritage Christian School for the next 5–7 years through a strategic planning process. Included in the plan will be specific initiatives where we are asking God to direct our efforts in the areas of advancement, finance, site planning and facilities, academics, student life, people, and discipleship. These represent our core areas of ministry. I am looking forward to sharing this visionary plan with the school family by the beginning of school in August.
It is with a great deal of pride that I announce that Heritage Christian School has earned recognition as a National Blue Ribbon School. This afternoon, U.S. Secretary of Education, Dr. Miguel Cardona, recognized Heritage among the 356 schools that are part of the 2024 cohort of National Blue Ribbon Schools.
As we start another school year, we are beginning our 60th year of Christian school ministry to greater Indianapolis! I am grateful that God established Heritage Christian School in 1965 to partner with Christian parents like you in the education and training of their children. Coming to campus this morning, the back-to-school transition began with dramatic changes to our routines, but we couldn't be more excited for what God has in store for us. Thank you for the privilege of serving you & your family this school year.
