2019-20 Spiritual Theme: He Must Increase, I Must Decrease
Posted on August 5, 2019
The annual spiritual theme is a springboard for classroom conversation, our athletics teams, and clubs. From our preschool students to high school seniors, the theme unites our students around a common idea that’s grounded in spiritual truth.
Each year, the discipleship staff, the chapel planning team, and the leadership team work together to select the theme for the upcoming school year. For the 2019- 2020 school year, the spiritual theme is He must increase, I must decrease.
The theme is from John 3:30, “He must increase, but I must decrease”. John the Baptist said these words at the time when his and Jesus’ ministry overlapped. It’s a principle that is applicable each and every day in our own lives.
It challenges us to ask ourselves, how are we increasing Him in our life? Are we spending time in His Word? Are we fellowshipping and worshipping with other believers? Are we glorifying Him with how we fill our time? Are we actively serving those around us? Are we pointing people to Christ? Are we living our life for an audience of One?
In an effort to remind students of the daily surrender to Christ, the theme is displayed around the school on banners, posters, and t-shirts. Students can expect to hear “He must increase, I must decrease” presented from different perspectives during Spiritual Emphasis Weeks each semester. The discipleship team hopes this theme will help students and teachers grow in the knowledge of God and seek to live out His Word daily.
