High School History Students Experience Special Lesson on Racial Reconciliation Day

High School History Students Experience Special Lesson on Racial Reconciliation Day

Posted on January 19, 2021

Today is Racial Reconciliation Day. High School History teacher, Mr. Ambrose taught a lesson that we expect will have a lasting impact on his students.

Mr. Ambrose and his students watched the famous "I Have a Dream" speech and learned about the original speech (the original did not include Dr. King's dream!) and how/why it morphed into the speech we know today. The class watched history unfold when Robert Kennedy broke the news of Dr. King's death to the Indianapolis crowd that gathered to listen to his campaign speech. Mr. Kennedy reiterated the love for God and unity that Dr. King stood for and he encouraged the crowd to not harbor hatred for all because of a few.

Ambrose Lesson

Mr. Ambrose and the class unpacked how God's word was the foundation for all that Dr. King stood for and then they discussed the vast differences in Dr. King's stance for the African Americans versus the views of Malcolm X.

The class ended with the students joining hands and praying for our leaders, for peace, for healing, and for racial restoration.

What an impactful lesson! We are so thankful for Mr. Ambrose and his Godly way of unpacking truth and life in an uncertain world.
