Discovering God’s Creativity Through Music
Our elementary music program helps students see how music reflects God’s creation. They also explore how composers express God’s beauty and learn to use their own creative gifts to glorify Him.

Engaging, Hands-On Learning
Using the National Music Education Standards as a foundation, students build musical skills through singing, playing instruments, listening, movement, and analysis. They also discover the connections between music, history, culture, and other art forms.

Opportunities to Shine
Students in grades 2-4 showcase their learning through annual musical performances, sharing their talents and hard work with family and friends. Additionally, select students in 4th grade have the opportunity to participate in the Indiana Music Education Association’s Circle The State With Song, a statewide choral festival.

Engaging Every Student in the Joy of Music
At HCS, every 5th and 6th grade student actively participates in a fine arts music class, allowing them to explore and develop their musical talents. Students can choose between instrumental music (band or strings), choral music (choir), or general music (6th grade only).

Choir
Students in choir deepen their understanding of music theory, history, and sight-reading. They learn to sing in an ensemble and perform a variety of musical styles all while using their voices to glorify God. Choir students showcase their growth in concerts each semester. Additionally, select students have the opportunity to participate in the Indiana Music Education Association’s Circle The State With Song, a statewide choral festival.

Band
Band students learn to read music, develop proper technique, and work as a group to create a unified sound. With a focus on tone production, posture, and ensemble performance, students grow in confidence as musicians. They perform twice a year.

Strings
Students in the strings program receive instruction on violin, viola, cello, and bass in an ensemble setting. They develop essential skills such as music reading, proper posture, intonation, and tone production. Their progress is celebrated in performances.

Expanding Musical Opportunities
Our middle school students have the opportunity to deepen their musical skills and explore their God-given talents through a variety of ensembles. Whether they enjoy singing, playing an instrument, or leading worship, students grow in musicianship while learning to use their gifts for God's glory.

Choir: Developing Vocal Excellence
Choir is perfect for students who want to continue to sing in an ensemble and expand their vocal abilities. Through sight-reading, music theory, and vocal technique, students gain confidence as musicians while performing a variety of musical styles and languages. Both sacred and secular music are studied from a Biblical worldview, helping students understand how music can glorify God.

Band: Growing as a Musician
Band students develop their skills in rhythm, scales, tone production, and musicianship while performing a variety of musical pieces. They participate in both Christmas and spring concerts and are encouraged to compete in ISSMA contests, providing opportunities for further growth and excellence.

Middle School Chapel Band: Leading in Worship
The middle school chapel band gives students the opportunity to lead their peers in worship throughout the year. In addition to learning contemporary worship music, students explore the history and philosophy of worship, music theory, and the technology behind modern worship. This course is by audition and recommendation only.

Jazz Band: Exploring a Unique Genre
Jazz Band introduces students to the rich history and unique style of jazz music. Open to both band and string musicians, this ensemble focuses on performance, improvisation, and the cultural significance of jazz, all from a Biblical worldview. Students perform in two major concerts each year, with potential additional performances.

String students continue to refine their skills on violin, viola, cello, and bass while working together as an ensemble. They explore a variety of musical styles, learn about composers' cultural and spiritual influences, and develop advanced techniques in tone production and musicianship. Students perform in fall and spring concerts and are encouraged to participate in ISSMA contests and community performances.

Cultivating Talent for God’s Glory
Our high school music program provides students with a variety of opportunities to grow as musicians, develop their talents, and use music to glorify God. Whether in vocal or instrumental ensembles, students are encouraged to explore their passion for music while gaining valuable skills in performance, theory, and leadership.

Choral Music
Students can join one of our choral ensembles, including Colla Voce, a select choir that performs a range of music from different periods, and Concert Choir, a non-auditioned choir focused on vocal development and performance. Both groups perform in school concerts and community events.

Instrumental Music
High School students can join instrumental ensembles such as Orchestra, Advanced Orchestra, Concert Band, and Jazz Band where they perform a range of musical styles, from classical to jazz, and even participate in the Pit Orchestra for the Fall Musical. The Band provides an opportunity for students to study diverse music styles, while the Jazz Band dives into the rich history of jazz, helping students master improvisation and performance. For those passionate about worship, the High School Chapel Band leads worship at chapel services, creating a powerful atmosphere of praise.

Music Theory & Music Appreciation
HCS also offers music classes that deepen students' understanding and appreciation of music. Intro to Music Theory & Composition introduces the basics of music structure and composition using Noteflight software. Dual Credit Music Theory provides an in-depth study of music theory and ear training, with college credit through Taylor University. Dual Credit Music Appreciation explores music history and composers, also offering college credit through Taylor University.
