Safety & Security
The safety and security of our students, staff, and families is a responsibility we take seriously. Heritage continually evaluates and strengthens the policies, procedures, personnel, and training that help protect our campus and prepare us to respond effectively in an emergency.
Our approach combines professional law enforcement and security expertise with a relational presence throughout the school community. We want students and families to feel both safe and known on our campus.
Heritage Christian School Police Department
Heritage Christian School has established the Heritage Christian School Police Department (HCSPD), strengthening our ability to provide a visible, professional, and highly trained law enforcement presence on campus.
Led by Chief Jim Hunt, the HCSPD includes a Chief of Police, two School Resource Officers (SROs), and civilian security officers. The department provides consistent police presence on campus, enhanced training, and ongoing collaboration with local law enforcement agencies.
Just as importantly, our officers take a relational approach to school safety. Throughout the day, they connect with students, parents, faculty, and staff, building trust and open communication while remaining prepared to respond when needed.

Our officers and security personnel bring experience in law enforcement, military service, and professional security. They continually review procedures, training, and campus needs as part of Heritage’s ongoing commitment to providing a safe and welcoming environment where students can thrive.

How We Maintain a Safe School Environment
On-Campus Police & Security Presence
The Heritage Christian School Police Department provides a consistent law enforcement presence on campus through our Chief of Police and School Resource Officers, supported by civilian security officers.
Our police and security personnel receive ongoing training designed to prepare them to prevent, de-escalate, and respond to situations that could threaten the safety of our school community. Heritage also maintains policies governing armed personnel and appropriate response procedures on campus.
The HCSPD works collaboratively with local law enforcement and emergency response agencies as part of our broader approach to campus preparedness.
Safety Initiatives & Emergency Preparedness
While we do not publicly share every security measure or enhancement implemented at HCS, our Safe School Committee continually evaluates opportunities to strengthen the culture of safety across campus.
Students and staff participate in safety drills throughout the school year, including instruction and preparation related to Run, Hide, Fight response principles. We encourage parents to talk with their students about school safety and reinforce the importance of following instructions during an emergency.
We also ask every member of the Heritage community to help us maintain a culture of awareness. Following the principle of “See Something, Say Something,” students, parents, and employees should report concerning behavior or communications, whether observed in person or online.
Secure Visitor Access & Entry Policies
All visitors must register and obtain a visitor's badge before accessing the school building, and this badge must be displayed at all times.
Visitors will be required to provide identification or leave their driver's license with school personnel while visiting.
Whenever possible, please schedule all visits to the campus in advance with the school office or the employee you plan to meet.
Traffic Safety & Carline Procedures
To keep arrival and dismissal safe and efficient, we provide carline instructions based on the grade level of the youngest student in your household. Families are encouraged to watch the correct video before the school year begins and anytime clarification is needed.

The safety of our students, staff, and families is not something we take lightly. We are committed to guarding the physical and emotional security of every person on campus. We remain prayerful, watchful, and ready to respond in any circumstance, and we consider it an honor to protect this community.
