Prep-K

Children are naturally curious, therefore, our program provides opportunities for investigations, exploration, problem-solving, scientific inquiries, and many more hands-on activities throughout the year.

Our Social Studies curriculum includes history, geography, and civics which focuses on helping children understand their heritage and develop a strong sense of self as related to their role in God’s world.

Prep-K students participate in art, music, movement and literature experiences called "specials."  These specialized areas of instruction are an integral part of our curriculum and support creativity, physical development, and a growing love of learning.

Art 
Prep-K students learn to draw upon personal experiences as well as their imagination as a basis for their art. They work with a variety of materials and art tools in planned projects and free expression lessons. The process and experience is more important than the final product at this age.

Music
Prep-K students are introduced to music through singing, creative movement, instrument playing, and listening. A variety of styles of music are introduced and used to enhance early learning and development.

Movement 
Prep-K students are given the opportunity to exercise their bodies learning to listen, follow directions and participate in activities that strengthen their large motor skills. 

Literature 
Prep-K students expand their vocabulary, strengthen listening and comprehension abilities, and develop early print awareness through shared reading, storytelling, and exposure to many different types of literature. Positive early experiences with books foster a love of reading and set the stage for academic success.

In our Prep-K “Maze” program, movement isn’t just play, it’s a powerful tool for brain development. Prep-K students perform systematic movement activities that  play a critical role in brain development, especially in early childhood. When children engage in activities that involve crossing the midline, they strengthen communication between the left and right hemispheres of the brain. This bilateral coordination supports building neural pathways that improve motor planning, spatial awareness and cognitive processing. In short, purposeful movement not only develops physical coordination but also enhances learning, focus and overall learning in all areas.
