Grades 1-4

The Elementary School program at Heritage Christian School supports students during a season of growing independence, curiosity, and responsibility. In a Christ-centered environment, our students build strong academic foundations, deepen their faith, and learn how to apply biblical truth to their daily lives. Our teachers are intentional about helping each child feel known, supported, and confident as they grow.

Our elementary program serves students in grades 1-4. These short videos offer a glimpse into daily life in each grade level:

Our Approach to Elementary Learning

Elementary students learn best through strong instruction, meaningful practice, and opportunities to apply learning in real and engaging ways. At Heritage, classrooms are structured to encourage curiosity, responsibility, and a love of learning while remaining developmentally appropriate for growing minds.

Our elementary program emphasizes:

  • Christ-centered instruction grounded in God’s Word
  • Strong foundations in reading, writing, and mathematics
  • Hands-on learning and critical thinking
  • Character development and personal responsibility
  • Partnership between school and home

Teachers are attentive to each student’s background and learning experience, providing both support and challenge as students settle in and move forward together.

Elementary Curriculum

Our elementary curriculum is designed to challenge students academically while nurturing their faith and character. Through strong instruction, hands-on learning, and intentional integration of biblical truth, students build the skills and confidence needed for continued growth.

STEM in Elementary School

STEM is a regularly scheduled "special" in elementary school that builds curiosity, problem-solving skills, and critical thinking through hands-on learning.

Students engage with Discovery Education STEM Connect, which introduces real-world challenges that encourage collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking. They also participate in Discovery Education Coding, where students explore foundational coding concepts such as sequences, algorithms, and logical reasoning through age-appropriate, engaging activities.

Together, these experiences help students make connections across subjects while exploring God’s design and building a strong foundation for future learning.

Educational Support Services

Heritage recognizes that students learn in different ways and at different paces. Our Educational Support Services (ESS) team partners with teachers and families to support students who may benefit from additional academic assistance or targeted skill development.

Support at the elementary level may include small-group or individualized instruction focused on areas such as reading, writing, mathematics, organization, and study skills. ESS teachers collaborate closely with classroom teachers to reinforce instruction, build confidence, and help students develop strategies for success.

Educational Support Services are designed to support growth while encouraging independence and helping students reach their full potential.

Discipleship in Elementary School

Discipleship is woven into every part of the elementary experience at Heritage. Teachers intentionally model Christlike character and guide students as they grow spiritually through prayer, Scripture, worship, and daily interactions rooted in biblical truth.

Elementary students also gather weekly for chapel, a meaningful time of corporate worship where they sing, hear God’s Word taught, and grow together in their understanding of faith.

Through classroom instruction, chapel, and everyday moments, our students are encouraged to live out the fruit of the Spirit, care for others, and apply biblical truth both inside and outside the classroom.

Fine Arts in Elementary School

Fine arts are an important part of the elementary experience at Heritage.

  • In music, students sing, move, play instruments, and develop foundational musical skills while learning how music can be used to glorify God.
  • In visual art, students work with a variety of materials and techniques to explore line, color, texture, and design. Lessons encourage creativity, skill development, and an appreciation for art as a reflection of God’s creation.

Athletics for Grades 1-4

Elementary students have opportunities to participate in athletics through Heritage’s Youth Sports Program. These parent-led teams help students grow in skill, teamwork, and character while learning to compete with integrity and sportsmanship.

Youth sports opportunities vary by grade level and season and may include sports such as football, basketball, cheer, lacrosse, and running.

Parent Community & Involvement

We believe education is most effective when families and schools work together, and parent involvement is an important part of life at Heritage. Throughout the year, families stay connected through regular communication, school events, and shared experiences that strengthen relationships between students, parents, and teachers.

The Parent Teacher Fellowship (PTF) plays a key role in building community by supporting teachers, welcoming families, and organizing opportunities for connection across the school. Parents are invited to be involved in ways that fit their season of life, whether that means simply attending events or volunteering as opportunities arise.
