From the Head of School
Dr. Brian Dougherty, Ed.D, came back to Heritage in 2023 as our Head of School, bringing over 30 years of experience in Christian education. Before this, he spent a decade here as a teacher and Middle School Principal before leading other Christian schools in Indiana and Georgia. Dr. Dougherty holds degrees from Purdue and Ball State, including a Doctorate in Educational Leadership. He and his wife Rachel have two children, Colin and Caroline, who are both Christian school grads. He's deeply committed to guiding the next generation with a Biblical approach to education.

At Heritage Christian School, we hire individuals that are fully devoted Christ followers who love children and understand that this work is not a job but an answer to a call from God to serve our students in this unique way. One such relationship has unfolded in the past two years between our Elementary Discipleship Coordinator, Lisa Huff, and senior, Isabelle Smith.
This past week, we saw our mission on display at our varsity football game against Speedway High School. Before the game, during an in-depth conversation with an assistant coach, one player was encouraged to live out his faith on the field, “Look for an opportunity for God to work through you this season.”
This fall marks our 62nd year of Christian school ministry to greater Indianapolis. God continues to do a great work here at 75th & Binford for His glory! What a joy it was to see such a great turnout at our Back-To-School Bash on Tuesday night! The Lord blessed us with a beautiful evening and a wonderful time of fellowship before we return to class this week.
As we reflect on the 2025–26 school year, our hearts overflow with gratitude for all the Lord has accomplished in and through the Heritage Christian School community. This year’s spiritual theme, “Immeasurably More" became far more than a theme for the year. It became a prayer we returned to often—that God would accomplish immeasurably more than we could ask or imagine in the lives of our students, faculty, and families.
Heritage family, as we begin a new school year, we are excited to return to the transformational work God has called us to in the discipleship of students and the pursuit of excellence in education.
