Kim Armstrong - Elementary School Academic Coach

Kim Armstrong

Elementary School Academic Coach

For nearly 25 years, Kim Armstrong has dedicated her life to teaching with 19 of those years right here at Heritage Christian School. Her journey has included homeschooling, public school, and Christian school teaching, but she’s spent most of her career in early elementary classrooms.

“God has placed on my heart the desire to inspire our youngest students to have a growth mindset and a love of reading,” Kim shared. “It has been a joy and privilege to come alongside parents and students to help them grow and develop into the person God has created them to be.”

Kim sees reading and communication not just as skills, but as gifts from God. “God uses language to communicate to us through His Word. As His image bearers we can learn to listen, speak, read, and write with love and purpose. This truth inspires me to bring my best each day to make sure that our youngest students’ school days are filled with rich Language Arts experiences.”

Kim graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. That training laid the foundation for a career where she has taught nearly every grade from kindergarten through 4th grade. Today, she serves as Academic Coach in our elementary school, helping shape the learning experiences of Heritage’s youngest Eagles.

“In my role at HCS, I strive to help students see the joy and purpose in learning and growing to become the person God has created them to be,” Kim said. “Education is not just about gaining knowledge but shaping hearts and minds to be on mission for Christ. I believe each student is uniquely created in the image of God, with gifts and potential that can be developed through perseverance, effort, and grace.”

Her personal connection to Heritage runs deep. Her children attended HCS, and today her daughter, Katy Patchett, serves as the Elementary Librarian. Even more special, all three of her grandchildren attend Heritage as well. “I get to spend my days in the same building with all of them. It doesn’t get much better than that! God is good!”

Kim loves being part of a community that shares her faith and mission. “I just love working in a place that honors our Lord Jesus and working with so many incredible people that love the Lord and do their best for Him each day,” she reflected. “I also love teaching at HCS because in 25 years of teaching I have never had the same day twice, which always keeps you on your toes and is always exciting!”

When she’s not at school, Kim cherishes time with family. She loves puzzles, board games, and bike riding, and has even completed a 150-mile trail ride with her son.

Kim also has a few fun facts up her sleeve. Her full name is uniquely spelled “Kimmerly” … without the “b.” She can finish a 1,000-piece puzzle in a single day, is a faithful daily Wordle player, and admits she’s “a little obsessed with phonemes and graphemes…which is perfect for my current position!”

We are deeply grateful for Kim’s faithful service, joyful spirit, and the lasting impact she continues to make in the lives of our students and families.
