Amy Ashley
5th Grade Math and Science Teacher

For as long as she can remember, Amy Ashley has loved teaching. “From the time I can remember, I was lining up my dolls and stuffed animals and playing school,” she said. “I had a desk, homework I would assign, and a sticker set for graded papers!” What began as childhood play soon became a lifelong calling, one that was deeply influenced by a teacher she had in second grade. “Seeing her faith in action daily in the classroom was extremely impactful on me not only as a student, but still today as a teacher. She was the reason I made the decision to pursue a career in education.”
Amy went on to earn a B.A. in Elementary Education and Bilingual/Bicultural Education from Ball State University, a Special Education License from Taylor University, and an M.Ed. in Early Childhood Education from The American College of Education.
Today, she teaches fifth grade math and science at HCS. Her classroom is a place where both minds and hearts are nurtured. “In my classroom, I strive to make sure my students are known, loved, and challenged both academically and spiritually,” she shared. “I want them to know that I love and care for them and am invested in their learning, and most importantly, their walk with Christ.”
Faith plays a central role in Amy’s teaching philosophy. “I am very honest and open with my students about my faith,” she said. “My fifth graders know that I appreciate and want them to ask me what I’m learning in God’s Word each day. They have never skipped a day asking!”
For Amy, the most rewarding moments come when students recognize God’s faithfulness in their own lives. “We talk weekly about where we are seeing God show up, and the conversations are powerful,” she said.
When she’s not teaching, Amy enjoys spending time with her busy household. She’s a proud mom of five children, ages 13–22, and four dogs!
