Jennifer Nutter - 3rd Grade Teacher

Jennifer Nutter

3rd Grade Teacher

When Jennifer Nutter stepped into a Heritage classroom as a 5-year-old, she had no idea she’d one day spend decades teaching here, but God was already writing her story. “I started at Heritage in Kindergarten in 1975. I knew in 2nd grade that I wanted to be a teacher.” After graduating from Heritage in 1988, she earned her teaching degree from Grace College and interviewed with Mrs. Mary Jane English, her first grade teacher. She began teaching at Heritage in August 1992, calling it “a dream come true...I am so thankful to the Lord for allowing me to teach at Heritage.”

Jennifer says that in her classroom, she strives to encourage her students toward a personal relationship with Christ. “I encourage my 3rd graders to make Jesus their very best friend forever.” Scripture memory is set to songs and rhythms to help God’s Word stick in their hearts. “The best part is that it is tucked away in their hearts forever. The Lord can bring those 3rd grade verses to their minds during adulthood.”

Faith is central to the way she teaches. Jennifer regularly shares stories of boldness and growth in her own walk with Christ and invites students to live out their faith in practical ways. “I encourage all of my students to find ways that they can be the hands and feet of Jesus. It can be as simple as helping a neighbor with their trash bins or making muffins for someone.” She even inspires her class to gift Bibles to others, and many have shared joyful stories of giving one to a neighbor or family member.

Her favorite part of working at Heritage is simple and heartfelt: “getting to talk about Jesus all day every day.” One of the greatest joys in her teaching journey has been praying with a student to receive Christ.

Jennifer has been married to Scott for 33 years. They have two children, both HCS graduates, and they welcomed their first grandchild in March 2025. Outside of school, Jennifer enjoys garage sales, playing games and spending time with her family.

We are grateful for teachers like Jennifer who love their students well and point them to Jesus each day. Her story reminds us of God’s faithfulness through generations at Heritage. As a student who once learned here, she now leads students of her own, shaping hearts for Christ.
