Kathryn Edeburn
First Grade Teacher

Kathryn Edeburn’s journey to becoming a teacher began long before she entered the classroom. “I have wanted to be a teacher since I was really little,” she shares. “I even had a room at my parents’ house that was my ‘classroom.’ I would play school for hours and ask for teaching supplies for my birthday every year.” After earning her degree in elementary education with a concentration in kindergarten from Ball State University, Kathryn taught in Westfield for nine years. She then stayed home for six years after the birth of her daughter, Ellie, and her son, Asher. Her connection to Heritage began when Ellie started kindergarten here, and Kathryn fell in love with our mission and community. “I prayed that God would lead me where I was meant to be,” she explains. “I am now in first grade at Heritage, and it has been the biggest blessing—I am so thankful to be here.”
Kathryn describes her role as more than just teaching; it’s about building a foundation of love and faith. “In my classroom at HCS, I strive to help every child feel loved and to know they can rely on Jesus at all times,” she says. For Kathryn, this spiritual connection is essential because it gives her students a lasting foundation: “If children learn now that Jesus is always with them and develop a strong faith, they’ll have the assurance, no matter what challenges they face in life, that He is by their side.”
Faith is woven into Kathryn’s daily classroom routine. “We pray together every day in class and talk about letting our light shine every day,” she shares. Her students even have a classroom wall of stars to highlight moments when they “shine their light” by showing their love for Jesus. She often reminds her students that “we can see Jesus in everything, even something like the sunrise each day.”
Kathryn’s favorite part of working at Heritage is being able to celebrate and teach about Jesus openly. “Working with first graders every day brings me so much joy! Getting to pray together, celebrate Jesus together… it’s just such a gift,” she says. Bible time is a special highlight of her day as her students engage in Bible stories, share their thoughts on Jesus, and grow their faith together.
Outside of school, Kathryn treasures time with her family. She has two children, Ellie and Asher, and a dog Otis. They love spending time outdoors, exploring new places, swimming, and even having family “dance parties” at home. Kathryn also enjoys photography and reading whenever she finds a moment to herself.
Heritage Christian School is fortunate to have Kathryn Edeburn, whose enthusiasm for teaching, faith, and community make a lasting impact on her students and colleagues.
