Kim Everhart
7th Grade Language Arts Teacher

Kim Everhart’s journey to teaching was one of faith, reflection, and a call to a greater purpose. After earning a degree in Literature from Charleston Southern University, she began her career as an editor and publishing specialist at Thomson Reuters. Though she enjoyed aspects of her work, she felt God leading her toward a different path. After much prayer and reflection, she enrolled in Butler’s Transition to Teaching program which she completed while staying home with her children. She also served as Heritage’s middle school girls’ soccer coach. In 2017, she officially joined HCS as a teacher.
In her classroom, Kim strives to ensure that “students know they are seen, heard, valued, and loved.” She believes that building trusting relationships is the foundation of her teaching, creating an environment where students feel safe to grow both academically and spiritually.
Faith is woven into every aspect of her teaching, especially through literature. “Most of the things we read in my class involve themes of dealing with adversity, overcoming fears and challenges, and growing from our mistakes,” she explains. She is intentional about sharing her own imperfections and struggles so that students see an authentic example of perseverance and joy in Christ. “I want them to develop a spiritual growth mindset by seeing how if we put Christ at the center of our lives, we can persevere and grow from our struggles.”
Her connection to Heritage runs deep—her husband graduated from HCS in 1999, and both of their children now attend the school.
When asked about her favorite part of teaching, she doesn’t hesitate: “I love my students! You have not experienced life and laughter until you've spent a day with 7th graders. They simultaneously keep me young and turn my hair gray. Odd how that works!”
Outside of the classroom, the Everhart family is all about soccer. Both Kim and her husband played through college, and their children play travel soccer for FC Pride. “I absolutely love watching my kids and their friends play the sport I love.” When she’s not cheering from the sidelines, she enjoys reading novels and cooking elaborate meals for her family.
Through her love for literature, her students, and her faith, Kim is shaping the next generation of learners at Heritage Christian School, one story at a time.
