Abby Morton - 2nd Grade Teacher

Abby Morton

2nd Grade Teacher

For as long as she can remember, Abby Morton has felt called to teach. “I’ve always had a deep peace and confidence in knowing this was the path God had for me,” she said. “Even during the hard seasons and late nights, I never lost the joy that comes from working with children.” Teaching, for Abby, isn’t just a profession, it’s a calling God placed on her heart early in life, one she’s grateful to live out every day.

After earning her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Indiana Wesleyan University, Abby joined the Heritage Christian community, where she teaches second grade. In her classroom, she’s intentional about blending academic challenge with spiritual growth. “I strive to create a space where students experience the love and peace that come from knowing Jesus, while also being challenged academically and spiritually,” she said. “The Bible is the lens we look through in every subject and situation, and my prayer is that my students see that in everything too.”

Faith is woven into every part of Abby’s teaching. “Whether it’s through daily prayer, worship, or even conversations, I try to point my students to Jesus in all things,” she shared. “I want them to know that God is with them in every moment, not just at church or chapel, but right in the middle of their school day, friendships, and learning.”

Abby’s journey to Heritage is one she describes as clearly orchestrated by God. “God actually put Heritage on my heart back in high school, and at the time, I didn’t fully understand why,” she said. “Years later, when I found out I’d be student teaching with the amazing Ms. Foster, everything clicked. It’s clear now that God was planting seeds and preparing the way. From that moment on, it’s been one God-orchestrated connection after another, and I’m so grateful He led me here. I tell everyone it truly is my dream job!”

Since joining the Heritage community, Abby has found deep encouragement in the people around her. “I’ve truly never experienced a place where everyone is so unified in their mission to know Christ and make Him known,” she said. “You can feel that purpose woven through every event, classroom, and conversation. It’s such a gift to be part of a place that supports and encourages each other while keeping Christ at the center.”

Outside the classroom, Abby enjoys spending time with her close-knit family. She’s the youngest of four siblings and loves being an aunt to her nieces and nephews. She always has a trip planned, and she’s a devoted Pacers fan. When she’s not following her favorite team, Abby can often be found watching movies. She loves discovering new films, discussing directors and soundtracks, and sharing her enthusiasm for all things cinema.
