Matt Sullivan - High School Business Teacher

Matt Sullivan

High School Business Teacher

Meet Matt Sullivan, High School Business Teacher. After 22 years in corporate America, Matt felt a calling to step into the classroom. “The Lord called me out of corporate America and into education,” he said. Now, as a high school business teacher at Heritage, he brings a wealth of experience and a passion for teaching personal finance through the lens of biblical stewardship. “I want to help students see money not as the goal, but as a resource to manage faithfully, wisely, and generously in service to God and others,” he explained.

Matt graduated from Indiana University with a bachelor’s degree in general studies focusing on Behavioral and Social Sciences and was drawn to Heritage’s covenant school model. “What interested our family the most was that the school is a covenant school, which is what we came from while in Illinois,” said Matt. His teaching philosophy is deeply rooted in faith, viewing education as an opportunity to invest in students’ hearts and minds for the Kingdom. “My faith compels me to see teaching as a calling, where I can not only equip students with knowledge but also model Christ’s love, encourage spiritual growth, and help them discover their God-given purpose,” shared Matt.

Matt is most excited about walking alongside students in their faith journeys. “I want to help break down social barriers so that everyone feels more connected and valued and remind them that Christ showed us the greatest example of love by coming to serve, not to be served,” he said.

Outside the classroom, Matt enjoys running, coffee, and spending time in his home gym. He’s also passionate about learning how to eliminate hurry from his life. If given the chance to travel anywhere, he’d love to explore Ireland and tour its many castles.
